Home Inspection Tips and Guidelines

Bathroom Inspection Checklist

A good bathroom inspection checklist must be detailed and comprehensive, not just a shallow check box you check after taking one glance at the bathroom. During a bathroom inspection you should examine the pipes, fixtures, cabinets, toilets, tile, shower doors, flooring, bath enclosures, walls, lights, windows and even the door.

A proper home inspection checklist should have a separate page specifically for bathroom inspection, listing individual parts and sections of interest you should inspect.

Bathroom Inspection Checklist – What to Check

Bathroom Inspection ChecklistCheck the walls for any cracks, bulges, peeling paint or wallpaper, check the ceiling for any peeling paint or sagging sections, and look at the floor to see whether it is level, whether there is any loose or bulging linoleum, loose flooring tiles, large stains or damaged areas. Test all light switches to see if the lights are working and check all electrical outlets, making sure they are working and anchored firmly to the walls.

Check the windows to see if they can be opened and closed easily, and whether the blinds and curtains are functioning. Move on to the exhaust fan and test it to see if it sounds normal.

Check the faucets, sinks and drains to see if they operate properly. Turn on any faucets and look at the color of the water, how long it takes for hot water to get there and whether the sink drains easily.

Inspect the bathtub and shower stall to see whether the shower works, if the tub drains easily and if there is any damage to the walls around the tub or heavy mineral stains inside the tub.

Lastly, flush the toilet to test it, and check for any dripping from valves behind the toilet. If you can still hear dripping after the tank is full, there may be a problem.

Look at the overall condition of the bathroom to make sure there are no home safety issues with the electrical outlets or others, no problems with the plumbing, ventilation, faucets, sink, drain, ceiling, windows and so on. Don’t dwell on the small cosmetic issues, a little house maintenance will easily fix those.
